Dining![]() Riesling matches beautifully with a variety of foodsRESTAURANT REVIEWUbiquitous Chip 3 'One thing you will never find in the Ubiquitous Chip is a chip. That's the big joke. You get everything from sauté potatoes to colcannon, which is an Irish potato dish, but absolutely no chips’ Kirsty Wark, The Observer. This beautiful restaurant has in the past been awarded "Best German Wine List" by the AA Guide, and features wines such as Graacher Himmelreich Riesling 1995 from the Mittel Mosel. Its wine list is impressive and makes the restaurant well worth a visit for this reason alone. Those that venture to Ubiquitous Chip for its wine list will not be disappointed by its food either. The restaurant is renowned for its mix of traditional and original recipes created from the finest local produce. Restaurant critiques highly recommend mouth-watering dishes such as Orkney organic salmon with a lime & vanilla mash, or the cauliflower crème caramel studded with Scotch Bonnet chilli. The set three course Sunday lunch also does this restaurant proud; costing just £17.95 including a glass of sparkling wine you will devour dishes such as asparagus velouté, roasted soda scone, grilled asparagus and hollandaise sauce, with old favourites like Dover sole with prawn and whisky sauce. The restaurant is beautifully decorated by Alasdair Gray; the artist and writer, painted eccentric murals on the walls of the restaurant, which give it a bohemian feel. It also boasts a glass roof, trickling pool and luscious vinous courtyard. We recommend you try the J J Prum’s (featured in the producer profile section of this site) 1993 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese (£37.45) with the famous Peach and Frangelico Custard Tart with a Snow Egg of Peaches and Hazelnuts. |
