Dr Pauly - Bergweilers
The Dr Pauly wine estate makes award-winning wines. Dr Peter Pauly, his wife Helga Pauly and his son Stefan Pauly, have their roots in some of the oldest wine-growing families in the world famous Mosel region.
They focus exclusively on Germany’s noble Riesling in their vineyards which are located on the best sites in Bernkastel, Wehlen, Graach, Zeltingen, Urzig, Erden and Brauneberg.
While Dr Pauly enjoys the best of the old world in his well positioned vineyards in the heart of Germany’s wine growing country, he is also influenced by the new world. ‘I visited California once and I decided to build a Napa Valley-type winery here in Germany,’ he says.
His winery is modern and has all the latest equipment enabling him to manage the fermentation temperature and the ageing process carefully. The results speak for themselves; his Dr Pauly Classic Riesling 2000 recently won funding from the UK to help this wine onto the market.
In the meantime, to whet your appetite you can try his Dr Pauly halbtrocken Riesling 2000 which is available at Sainsbury, £4.99, or next time you’re near the picturesque German village of Bernkastel drop in to the winery’s tasting rooms and sample the full range of wines.
