Wines of Germany - Out and About in London Town20 October 2008
Wines of Germany have been working with Waitrose over the past couple of weeks, culminating in a fantastic wine tasting in the Canary Wharf Waitrose store on Thursday 16th October. Around 60 people attended the tasting, enjoying the opportunity to taste Waitrose’s excellent – and recently much expanded – selection of German wines and to speak to the winemakers and their representatives who were there to show case their wines. Personal highlights for me were the 2006 FĂĽrst Centgrafenberg Pinot Noir (tasting beautifully now so imagine how amazing it will be in another few years!) and the 2005 Karthäuserhof Riesling Auslese (simply delicious with blue cheese – just writing this is making my mouth water!) Having tasted all the wines, my love of German wines is now stronger than ever, and i’ve decided i’m on a mission to get more German pinot noirs (spätburgunders if you want the correct terminology) out of Germany and onto the UK high street. If the others are anywhere near as good as the FĂĽrst, I’ll be one happy lady… We’re linking up with Waitrose again in the next couple of weeks for a Waitrose Food Illustrated Reader event in London, and you can also find us at the Wine Show in Islington next week (from Thursday 23rd until Sunday 26th October) where we’ll be sampling a wide variety of wines from Germany, including dry whites, refreshing rosĂ©s and sumptuous reds. If you don’t already have plans, come along as tickets are still available – visit the website for further details at www.thewineshow.co.uk See you there!
