Rocking across the UK with German wines28 August 2008
28 August 2008 – Lucy On Friday 18th August, Wines of Germany travelled ‘oop norf’ for the weekend to Clumber Park, a beautiful forested area in Nottinghamshire, a stones throw from the famous Sherwood Forest. But we weren’t there in search of fair maidens and tights wearing heroes; no, it was Clumberfest, one of the many festivals around the UK that Wines of Germany has been sampling at this summer. With a line up that included bands such as Turin Brakes, Scouting for Girls and the Feeling (a personal favourite), energetic hits kept the revellers dancing well beyond sunset. As for the wines, they were the real success story of the night! We had samplers roaming the crowds, sampling to all those over 18 (!) and taking time to talk to them about the wines and helping them discover which was their favourite. The Wines of Germany stand also attracted a good crowd as festival goers were able to sample the six wines on offer and purchase a bottle of whatever they fancied to share with friends. It’s a good job we had lots of stock as it seems the crowd was pretty thirsty! It was great to see so many people enjoying the wines and being genuinely interested in what German wines had to offer. Those with outdated perceptions had the opportunity to discover that Germany produces dry wines – the Palatium Pinot Blanc and Kendermanns Pinot Grigio were real hits! The naturally lower alcohol was a big draw for others – the idea of a few tasty glasses of wine with no evil hangover has obvious appeal for all! The Dr L Riesling at just 8.5% abv was a clear favourite for those consumers. With summer now drawing to a close, I suppose it is time to look forward to harvest. Ones work in the wine trade is never done…
